Working with her father, a master craftsman and furniture designer, Jessie Kate grew up gaining practical experience with complex creative problem-solving. Her mother's musical focus also nurtured a love of entertainment and she combined the two to choose a path in entertainment design. Her past experience has been in freelance design, educational program design, production coordination for TV animation, creative direction for startups, and indie project development.
When she brought her curiosity and analytical approach to the animation industry and found a gap in the costume design education, she decided to fill the void by gathering a team of specialists to create a book (http://jessiekate.com/talking-threads)
Jessie Kate specializes in using personality psychology to create immersive visual concept designs and authentic character arcs. She also uses her expertise to coach artists who feel stuck in their personal and professional process, guiding her mentees through narrative analysis, practical research methodology, and concept development.
Jessie Kate also develops original story pitches with her husband Tong Bui, and is often found brainstorming new books and design projects with her friends and collaborators.
